Any contractor using pesticides, herbicides and weed killers is required by law to have NPTC PA1/PA6 certification in order to use these chemicals on your property.
Considerations for Herbicidal Spraying
Herbicide applications can be done by stem injection, leaf wipe or spraying. The method chosen depends on the plant, the level of infestation and environmental factors such as the proximity to water ways. We ensure that the most appropriate herbicide is used, correctly applied at the required strength and at the right time of year. We ensure that all pesticides are used in accordance manufacturers specifications.
Apart from being appropriately qualified, our staff are fully aware of all legislation that applies to the use of pesticides. This includes COSHH, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health, the Code of Practice for Using Plant Protection Products 2006 and The Environment Act amongst others.
Written permission from the Environment Agency must be obtained for herbicide use within 5 metres of a watercourse. Catastrophic damage can be done to the eco system by inappropriate use of powerful herbicides. Guilty parties face unlimited fines by the Environment Department - this includes you as well the unlicensed contractor who caused the problem.
We use herbicides to help with the eradication of all problem plants including Ivy, Buddleia, Japanese and Knotweed.
